Consumer & Community Centered Studies

If you are considering a scientific research project that involves human participants, consider submitting it to our Consumer and Community Advisory Panel at the earliest stages of development.

Research with participants at the centre

If you are considering scientific research involving human participants, you can engage Bellberry’s Consumer and Community Advisory Panel (CCAP) at the earliest stages of your study design.

The CCAP provides independent, consumer-informed feedback to help ensure research is designed with participants in mind. It supports researchers to shape studies that are clear, relevant and respectful of the people who may take part.

Importantly, CCAP review takes place at the concept stage and does not require a full protocol. This allows researchers to test and refine their ideas early, before detailed study documentation is developed.

How our CCAP can help you

Early engagement with our CCAP can help you:

  • Ensure your research is participant-centred from the outset
  • Improve clarity, relevance and accessibility of study design
  • Identify potential concerns from a participant perspective
  • Strengthen recruitment and participant experience considerations
  • Refine your concept before progressing to formal ethics review

By incorporating consumer and community insight early, CCAP helps researchers design studies that are not only scientifically robust but also meaningful and appropriate for the people involved.

Not all projects require HREC review. Studies with more than a low level of risk must be reviewed by an HREC. Some low-risk or quality assurance activities may follow other pathways or be exempt. Refer to the National Statement on Ethical Conduct in Human Research for details, or see our Review Pathways guide.
