HREC certification and registration
Bellberry’s Human Research Ethics Committees are certified, accredited and registered with the relevant national and international bodies — providing researchers and sponsors with independent assurance of the quality and integrity of our review processes.
NHMRC certification
All Bellberry HRECs are certified by the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) under the National Approach to Single Ethical Review of Multi-Centre Research, and are listed on the NHMRC website.
Our HRECs are certified to review all phases of clinical trials and all types of non-clinical trial studies. The NHMRC has issued continuous certification for all of our certified committees.

AAHRPP accreditation
Bellberry is proud to be the first organisation in Australia to achieve full accreditation from the Association for the Accreditation of Human Research Protection Programs (AAHRPP), a US-based, internationally- recognised body that promotes high-quality, ethically sound human research.
Bellberry first achieved AAHRPP accreditation in 2020 and was reaccredited in 2023 for a further five years.
Our AAHRPP accreditation demonstrates that Bellberry:
- Meets rigorous global benchmarks for ethical oversight and human research protection.
- Maintains comprehensive policies, training, and quality management systems.
- Operates with transparency and continuous improvement at its core.

OHRP registration
Because Bellberry does not conduct scientific research, we are not required to file a Federalwide Assurance (FWA).
However, HRECs that review non-exempt human research conducted or funded by the US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) must register with the Office for Human Research Protections (OHRP).
Bellberry is registered with OHRP to ensure compliance with these regulations. Bellberry HRECs also meet the FDA requirement of CFR Part 56 Sec. 107 IRB Membership.
