The ARMS 2023 conference is an in-person conference that will take place in Sydney from 6 – 8 September.
The conference theme is “Shifting Sands: Embracing the Diverse Future of Research Management” and it encourages us to harness uncertainty and change to cultivate a more resilient, inclusive, and sustainable future.

The 2023 ARCS Annual Conference (6–8 June 2023) will be held at the International Convention Centre (ICC), Darling Harbour, Sydney. The ARCS Annual Conference brings together industry professionals, consumers, patients, practitioners, researchers and academia to unite, educate, inform and network.

On Monday in celebration of International Clinical Trials Day on 20 May, the Bellberry team supported and acknowledged all the amazing achievements that result from clinical research, by hosting a clinical trials themed afternoon tea.
Andy Phay, Cancer Clinical Research Manager at SA Health joined us for a discussion about the key considerations and priorities when running a clinical trial, followed by a presentation and learning’s from the Ethics Working Group in AI Translational Health Research in Singapore by Lisa Eckstein (Director of Philanthropy at Bellberry) and an update on Confidentiality and Privacy in a Landscape of Emerging Technologies from Franco Boschiero (IT Business Partner at Bellberry).
We were also proud to publish the Bellberry Clinical Trial Activity Report for 2022. This annual publication represents over one third of the Australia wide CTN trial activity across the development lifecycle.

On International Clinical Trials Day, we’re proud to publish the Bellberry Clinical Trial Activity Report for 2022. This annual publication represents over one third of the Australia wide CTN trial activity across the development lifecycle.
This report demonstrates capability and capacity in a broad range of research areas. It also captures the originating funding location for inward investment in Sponsored clinical trials, again demonstrating Australia’s active participation in the global development process.
In this reporting period Bellberry was also delighted to have been awarded full re-accreditation for five years by the global Association for the Accreditation of Human Research Protection Programs (AAHRPP). Bellberry is the only organisation to achieve AAHRPP accreditation reflecting Bellberry’s commitment to protecting the rights and welfare of research participants.

2023 AAHRPP Annual Conference: Challenge and Change in Charm City
The 2023 Annual Conference of the Association for the Accreditation of Human Research Protection Programs (AAHRPP) is just around the corner! This year’s conference will take place from May 16 – 18 and will bring together researchers, IRB professionals, and other experts in human research protections for three days of networking, learning, and sharing. The conference will feature a range of sessions on topics related to human research protections, including updates on regulatory changes, best practices in IRB operations, and strategies for managing complex research studies. Attendees will have the opportunity to hear from leading experts in the field, participate in interactive workshops and roundtables, and engage with peers from around the world. Clinical Trials – Quality or Quantity?
V-CTEC (Victorian Clinical Trials Education Centre) is holding it’s inaugural annual conference on 2 & 3 March with both online and physical attendance options available.

Last year, Bellberry launched a pilot grant program to support participant engagement at scientific meetings. Conference organisers were encouraged to apply for funding to create and/or enhance participant-centric programs, with the overarching goal of improving research by embracing the participant voice.
Bellberry was thrilled to receive a larger-than-expected number of high-quality applications. Successful applicants were:
- The Health Services Research Association of Australia and New Zealand for the Health Services Research Conference, held in Sydney from 30 November to 2 December 2022; and
- The Lung Foundation Australia for the Australian Lung Cancer Conference, to be held on the Gold Coast from 15 to 17 February 2023.
Bellberry is further developing guidance with respect to complex study designs (such as platform, adaptive and umbrella protocols), which includes how these applications are presented to our Committees for review.
Aligned to our purpose, the quality of a Bellberry Committee review is part of the foundation of our service. While we acknowledge complex study designs have many advantages, there are additional considerations for the management of these types of study designs, ultimately with the protection of participants in mind.
